Coly Bear Giggles

It has been awhile since we've had a video, and I have a few of them to share, so I thought I'd post one per day this week (if I find the time, of course...). This one was taken a couple of weeks ago. We have the most ticklish little guy and he loves it!

Return of View From the Recliner

Tonight Rene is out having a girl's movie night with some of her friends from her Moms' group, so I thought I would hijack the blog and create a post of my own again. Rene headed out about 6:15, right as Colin was waking up from his nap after a long day of visiting Grandma and Grandpa and then showing Daddy some of the things he's been learning at swim lessons in the pool. I was thinking that after having a nice nap, Colin would be in a good mood and ready to play after Mommy left. Boy was I wrong. No matter what toys I put in front of him or how many Twinkle Twinkles I sang, he wasn't having it. I knew he still looked tired, but wanted to keep him up as long as possible since he had just had a nap. An hour latter, at 7:15, I decided to give up ship and head up to his room. I was sure I was going to be in for a hard time putting him to bed, too. Wrong again. From the minute I started his normal bedtime routine, the kid didn't cry once. Even during his rub-down with lotion, which he usually hates, he was surprisingly calm. He knew he wanted to go to bed and that sleepy time was only a book and bottle away. Even when I layed him down in his crib (usually another tipping point for crying), he didn't make a sound. Just goes to show you, sometimes the kid knows what he wants and it's best to just give in. He's so precious when he sleeps... I've checked in on him no less than 5 times in the past hour, a task I usually reserve for Rene in fear of waking him up and getting "the look." Rene and I both feel so lucky to be able to live the life we do and for her to be able to stay home with Colin. I know I don't give her enough credit for the unbelievably hard work I know it is. I am proud of her for so many reasons and am very lucky to be able to share the joys of parenting with her. From her countless hours of research, both prenatal and after Colin's arrival, to her making her own baby food, making sure he had breast-milk, no matter the inconvenience, and a myriad of other ways, she truly strives to be the best Mom a kid could ever wish for. I feel so blessed sometimes I wonder when I'm going to pinch myself and wake up from this dream. I know every parent will agree that raising kids is not without it's struggles, but I for one wouldn't trade our "Coly Bear" and the moments we spend together as a family for anything...

First Highchair!

So we finally got our highchair delivered yesterday, after a 2 week wait! So we tested it out this morning and Colin seems to like it. He did good with his feeding again today. He ate more of the cereal than he spit out, and for the first time, he opened his mouth for the spoon :) We can't wait until this weekend, he'll be trying out bananas!

Guinea Pig...and He Likes It!

For those who have been wondering what on Earth Colin and I have been up to, this is for you.

Brad surprised me yesterday with a little device I've been asking for for a couple of months. He set it up for me last night, and I had to test it out...on Colin. And I love it. It's called an Eye-Fi. It is an SD card for a digital camera that automatically downloads the pictures you take, as you take them, onto your computer. So at this morning's cereal feeding (day five of this adventure) I started using it. And then I couldn't stop. So we played with it some more this afternoon. After all, who can ever have enough Colin photos? Not me! :)

As for those cereal feedings, he's doing much better with them. He is eating about half of the cereal and it is a nice thick consistency at this point. He's also making his way through the whole batch I've made, he used to get so mad that he'd only last through about a quarter of the batch. He does love to be messy though, he gets very upset when I try to clean him...

He loves his Henry cat.

"Let me do it myself, Mom." (Notice the empty bowl next to him? First time!)

"You're silly, Mom!"

Messy Face!

"I'm cute, huh?"

Henry: "She's still taking pictures?"

First Feeding

On Saturday we started Colin on solids. He had his first taste of rice cereal...and he wasn't too thrilled. We'll start spoon feeding him daily, first rice cereal for a few days, then we'll start his first solid food, which I haven't decided what it will be yet. Here are a few photos for now, and if I can talk his sweet Daddy into it, I'll try and get some video downloaded and to you soon. After we both gave him a few spoonfuls, we let him play with the spoon, which he did pretty good with.

Six Month Checkup

Colin went to the doctor yesterday for his six month exam. He did pretty well. The doctor is worried about his eczema, so prescribed a steroid cream and gave us a few tips to help him out. She said there is no way to tell if it is adult or infant eczema, so we don't know if it is something he'll deal with his whole life, or just the first 3 years.

Everything else was good news. He weighed in at 15.7 pounds, so he is on the lower end of the weight range, but good. He measured in at 26 and 3/4 inches long, so on the higher end of length. He's long and lean (though still my chunky monkey, right CJ?).

He received 3 more vaccines and was feeling it today. Poor guy was running a fever and just wanted his Momma today, not even Daddy could help :(

The doctor did say she was happy and impressed with his sitting up skills, he's pretty much no hands now, and getting better everyday. She also commented on his two little teeth. He'll be starting solids this weekend, cereal for 4 days and then we'll introduce one new food a week, fruits and veggies at first. He'll also get to start drinking from a sippy cup when we are outside and he's sweating. I'm excited about both of these adventures!

That's all I've got for now, I'll leave you with an great photo of my little man showing off his sittin' up skills! (Click on it to make it bigger)
