Today you turn six months old. In fact, in less than an hour you will officially be half a year, already! Your so big Daddy and I are expecting to hear you'll be moving out on your own any day now.
You continue to steam roll ahead, knocking out one first after another. You've begun to sit on your own, today in fact you even sat on your own WITH NO HANDS! You had your first swim (and second and third), your first two teeth have come in (with just a little bit of fuss), you sat in a high chair for the first time, you drove your first car, and best of all...you slept 12 straight hours for the first time (and every night since!).
You went back to your old ways of wanting to see Momma 5 or 6 times a night. I was exhausted, I was barely functioning, something had to be done. So, I bought a book, took a few days to read it, and then, after 3 nights of doing just what the book said, behold the sleeping child. You learned to sleep without a swaddle, without a midnight snack, without a night light, and without seeing Momma all night. I come into your room every morning to a happy smiling baby now and tell you what a good sleeper you are. You just beam up at me in anticipation of picking you up. You are even sleeping better during the day. You go down 2 hours after you first wake for a one hour nap in your crib, after that you typically sleep next to me or on me some how. Those are the naps Momma likes. I know one day I'll miss those cuddles, so I cherish them now.
This month you have spent most of your waking hours grabbing things and shoving them into your little mouth. There is nothing in this world off-limits to your grabbing and eating. You've gobbled other people's hair, the telephone, everyone's shirt, the cat's fur, bibs, napkins, and both of your feet. The past two mornings I've even walked into your room to find you sucking on the extra material you have pulled loose from your left footsie on your jammies.
Coly Bear, you are so wonderful. You have made my life so complex and crazy and intense, but I find myself waking up early and counting the minutes until you wake up. I get so excited to see those blue eyes and those chubby cheeks, and I want to rush in and scoop you up. You can eat my shirt anytime, Little Man (but try not to eat the cat, please).
Love,
Momma
