Monthly Newsletter: Month Six

Dear Colin,

Today you turn six months old. In fact, in less than an hour you will officially be half a year, already! Your so big Daddy and I are expecting to hear you'll be moving out on your own any day now.

You continue to steam roll ahead, knocking out one first after another. You've begun to sit on your own, today in fact you even sat on your own WITH NO HANDS! You had your first swim (and second and third), your first two teeth have come in (with just a little bit of fuss), you sat in a high chair for the first time, you drove your first car, and best of all...you slept 12 straight hours for the first time (and every night since!).

You went back to your old ways of wanting to see Momma 5 or 6 times a night. I was exhausted, I was barely functioning, something had to be done. So, I bought a book, took a few days to read it, and then, after 3 nights of doing just what the book said, behold the sleeping child. You learned to sleep without a swaddle, without a midnight snack, without a night light, and without seeing Momma all night. I come into your room every morning to a happy smiling baby now and tell you what a good sleeper you are. You just beam up at me in anticipation of picking you up. You are even sleeping better during the day. You go down 2 hours after you first wake for a one hour nap in your crib, after that you typically sleep next to me or on me some how. Those are the naps Momma likes. I know one day I'll miss those cuddles, so I cherish them now.

This month you have spent most of your waking hours grabbing things and shoving them into your little mouth. There is nothing in this world off-limits to your grabbing and eating. You've gobbled other people's hair, the telephone, everyone's shirt, the cat's fur, bibs, napkins, and both of your feet. The past two mornings I've even walked into your room to find you sucking on the extra material you have pulled loose from your left footsie on your jammies.

Coly Bear, you are so wonderful. You have made my life so complex and crazy and intense, but I find myself waking up early and counting the minutes until you wake up. I get so excited to see those blue eyes and those chubby cheeks, and I want to rush in and scoop you up. You can eat my shirt anytime, Little Man (but try not to eat the cat, please).

Love,
Momma

Look Ma, I'm Sitting!

Colin is sitting up now. He stll has to use his hands to support himself and still teeters to the side occasionally, but he's getting there! Yesterday was the first day he'd done this, so I had to get some pictures! Too cute!

First Swim

Yesterday the weather was nice, the pool was warm enough (barely) and Colin was ready to get his feet wet with Momma and Grandpa! We put him in his new swim shirt, diaper and hat and he was ready to go. He seemed to enjoy being swished around, that's when we got the best smiles. We start swim lessons for him on June 16th, we'll post pictures from that too!

Daddy's Giggle Box

I've mentioned this before but, everyday when Brad gets home from work Colin gives him the biggest cutest smile of the day. Here lately though, he's decided that Daddy is the funniest creature alive. He just giggles at his daddy for no apparent reason. I took a video of this when Brad got home from work yesterday afternoon.

Ridin' Along in My Automobile...

Yesterday Brad put together Colin's car and we took him out for a cruise around the block. He LOVED it and had so much fun :) He was pretty darn cute in it too. I've got the video and a couple of pictures. Be prepared to smile uncontrollably!

First Mother's Day

I could not have asked for a better first Mother's Day. Brad made sure of that. The day started with some family cuddle time and great laughs and smiles from Colin. Then I got my cards and gifts from Colin and Brad. Colin got me a set of mixing bowls I had been wanting from William Sonoma and Brad got me a beautiful silver locket from Tiffany. It says Mom on the outside and inside he put an adorable photo of a smiling Coly Bear. He also gave me the most amazing orchid (I'll take a photo and get it up soon) and a cake from my favorite bakery. We had breakfast at Cracker Barrel, the first time since I was pregnant, with Frank and Kathy. Then we all went to Lorraine's and planted some lovely flowers for her in the back. At the end of the day we went to dinner with the Baker family, including Betheny and Bob who were in town for the weekend. After a little mexican food and some really good Mother's Day mimosas, we headed back to open gifts at Frank and Kathy's. And though she wasn't supposed to get me a gift, Kathy and Frank gave me a beautiful green vase and a Starbuck's gift card (yum!). We came home right at Colin's bed time and Colin went to down without too much fuss. Brad and I (well, mostly me) then devoured half the cake (but it was a tiny, tiny cake!). The perfect end to the perfect day!

A little nap with Momma. See the locket?

Play Time!

Colin is finally tall enough to touch the ground in his exerciser and knows what to do with all those fun toys around the side! He just turns himself around and plays with whatever he wants to at that particular moment. I thought you might like to see.

Oops, I'll remember next time I take a video on the camera, not to turn it vertically. But for this time, just tilt your head for a minute :)
