Monthly Newsletter: Month Three

(I'm going to start a monthly newsletter to Colin, so I can chronicle his growth for him to read in the future. This is the first of many.)

Dear Coly Bear,

Your dad gave you this nickname, just as a joke, and it stuck. Your mommy and daddy have this thing about putting "bear" at the end of names, i.e. Henry Bear. Your daddy jokes that you are going to be 16 and yelling at us, "STOP CALLING ME COLY BEAR!" lol

You had a really big third month of life. You met your cousin Shane for the first time; you met Gramma and Daddy's co-workers for the first time; you fell in and out of love; you found your hands and more specifically, your thumb; you began smiling a lot more, especially for momma when she makes her "surprised" face, you love that!; you had your first Valentine's day; and you had your first play date.

You definitely know what you like and what you don't. Some of your favorite things include the fox that hangs above your changing pad, burrowing your little face in Momma's shoulder and sleeping, sucking your hand and/or thumb, your swing, your binky, your little red robin that sings to you, bath time, and staring out the window of the car. Things you don't like: your car seat, the sun, and socks!

At the beginning of the month your favorite thing in the world, one of the only things that could make you smile and entertain you for a pretty long period of time was your star on your play mat. You would lay there and smile and coo at it as it blinked and sang to you. But, in the past few days, Momma tries to lay you down to stretch out in the mornings and you almost immediately start to cry. You just want the swing now.

You also like to go for walks, in your stroller or in your sling strapped to Momma. You just look around and absorb everything you see, or you just fall right to sleep!

You've recently started drooling a lot, which momma has been told means you will be teething soon. You've also been a little fussy lately, especially at night right before bed time.

One particularly hard day for us, Daddy came home early from work to help momma out with you. You had just settled down, finally!, after being fussy nearly the whole day. Your daddy was holding you so that you were facing momma. All of a sudden you looked right at me and just gave me the biggest, sweetest smile and a little giggle. Momma's day was completely worth it all at that moment. We proceeded to play for the next 5 minutes and you gave me lots and lots of beautiful smiles.

You've also started what Daddy and I refer to as the "fake cry." Instead of actually crying, you look at us and just say, "Wah."

You are doing really well with holding your head up, a lot of people who have met you are really impressed you are doing so well so young. Momma attributes it to all the tummy time you get, as well as all the time you spend looking over Momma's shoulder, which is one of your favorite spots. You have your days when you just don't want to be put down, so you spend the day in Momma's lap, arms, and propped up on my shoulder.

We've been to two play dates so far and though you are by far the youngest one there, you love to just sit on Momma's lap and watch all the other babies crawling and playing with their toys. You are mesmerized by their faces.

You've also become a talker. You coo at anything and everyone who will listen, including your little red robin. We can't forget the ceiling fan either. You LOVE every ceiling fan you encounter. Just a few days ago, you were sitting in your swing and you looked up all of a sudden and just started laughing and smiling at the ceiling fan!

You are growing up so fast and your Momma and Daddy just marvel at how much you've changed our lives. We didn't think it possible, but with every passing day we love you more and more. It's pretty much impossible not to.

Love,
Momma

Field Trip to Gramma's Work

Yesterday Colin and I took a little trip to see Gramma at work, so she could show him off and brag a little! He was good for a little bit, but then he got hungry and had had enough new people! Everyone was very kind and very gracious in their compliments of the little guy. He was a hit, and Gramma loved every second of it! Even when he was screaming and crying in the middle of the nice quite office..lol.

Momma was tired!

Baker Fashion Week 2: Day Six

The last 2 photos were just taken this morning. He loves to give lots of smiles in the morning, especially for momma!

This is his UT football onesie, a Valentine's Day gift from Momma to Daddy. (Uncle Kenneth, don't disown him, he was crying the minute I put it on him! hehe)

Baker Fashion Week: Day Five

I just imagine him saying "What do you want now, mom?" This overalls outfit is compliments of Gramma.

This outfit has turned out to be one of my favorites, it is also from Gramma and is just so bright and cute on him, its also pretty soft. I love the little paw feet.

1 minute after that last picture was taken...not even his beloved star could keep him awake. Notice Superman pose.

I also wanted to let you all know that Fashion Week will continue next week too. He has so many new outfits I couldn't fit them all into this one week. So check back daily next week too!

Baker Fashion Week: Day Three

This one is from Gramma too...it was his Super Bowl outfit

And this one is from both Momma and Gramma, we picked it out together. If you can't read it, it says "Sleepyhead"

And, for anyone who doesn't know, if you want to see the pictures larger, just click on them and they open up bigger!

I also wanted to post a small update. A few things:

1. Colin's hair is getting darker! No more "tow head." It's kinda red in some spots and dirty blond in others, even his eye lashes and eye brows are getting darker.

2. Colin has been doing much better at night. He has been in bed by 7:30 every night this week and last night he slept for 8 1/2 hours straight, then another 3 1/2 after a little middle-of-the-night-snack.

3. He's doing really well with his head and I think he'll be rolling over any day now!

4. His smiles are becoming more frequent.

5. Since we've been on Jenny Craig (5 weeks now), Daddy has lost 8 pounds and 3 inches overall. Momma has lost 9 pounds and 9 inches overall.

6. Our kitchen, guest room and downstairs bath should all be done by the end of the week (but, we've heard that one before!) I'll post pictures of that as soon as I can.

Colin decided he'd like to model his new clothes for all to see and admire...so this week I will post one or more pictures per day of his new duds. Enjoy!

Happy Valentine's Day!

On Colin's first Valentine's Day he wanted to wish everyone out there a happy one, and let them all know how much he loves and appreciates them! A special thank you to GG, Great Gramma Lorraine, Aunt Karen, and Gramma and Grandpa Baker for the wonderful cards and gifts!

I also wanted to tell you all some exciting news...Colin slept 8 hours straight last night! I don't know if this is the beginning of something wonderful or if he was just exhausted...but it was nice, and he was a good boy!

Colin Waves Bye

This is a short video I took of Colin playing in his bouncy chair, I was trying to get him in a "talkative" mood, so you could all hear his coos. Notice at the end when I say to tell everyone goodbye he throws up his little hand and waves. It's amazing how often he does something like that, like he can really understand what we are saying.

The Fabulous Baker Boys

I'm going to post lots of pictures, but I also wanted to let you all know that Colin is doing really well, he's started "talking" more and smiling more. He's holding his head up really well and has been sleeping 6 hours or more every night (well, except last night...we had 3 hour shifts again last night, he's been eating a lot last night and today, we think he's hit another growth spurt). Colin got a lot of new outfits while Shane and family were in town, including some matching ones with Shane, you'll see below. Aren't they cute?

Gramma, Grandpa and the boys

Grandpa and the boys in their matching panda outfits.

We had a hard time waking up Colin, these are the matching outfits from GG.

And here's GG with the boys in those matching outfits.

We finally had them both awake and in a good mood! Just in time for one more matching outfit, the pandas!

Play time! Both boys were enamored by the flashing star on the play mat.

Little Shane really loves to swing those arms and legs!

Sleepy time! Awwww. These are outfits from Gramma and Grandpa, look at the little feet!
